In Mr. Allen's high school class, all the students have to "get married." However, the wedding ceremonies are not real ones but simulations (模仿). These mock ceremonies sometimes become so noisy that the loud laughter drowns out the voice of the "minister. " Even the two students getting married often begin to giggle (笑)
The teacher, Mr. Allen, believes that marriage is a difficult and serious business. He wants young people to understand that many changes must take place after marriage. He believes that the need for these psychological and financial adjustments should be understood before people marry.
Mr. Allen doesn't only introduce his students to major problems faced in marriage such as illness or unemployment. He also exposes them to the problems they will face every day. He wants to introduce young people to all difficulties that can stress a marriage to the breaking point. He even familiarizes his students with the problems of divorce and the fact that divorced men must pay child support money for their children and sometimes pay monthly alimony to their wives.
It has been unsettling for some of the students to see the problem that a married couple often faces. Until they took the course, they had not worried much about the problems of marriage. However, students have endorsed (認可) the course publicly. Their statements and letters supporting the class have convinced the school to offer thecourse again.

普通高等教育“十五”國家級規劃教材《新世紀高職高專英語》(綜合教程)於2000年正式發行。由於該套教材充分利用國內外英語教學科研成果,全面體現高職高專英語教學規律,突出“五項創新”,深受廣大師生歡迎。為了使這套教材更加完善,我們對這套教材進行了全面修訂。按照教育部高等教育司頒布的《高職高專教育英語課程教學基本要求》,結合高職高專英語教學實際,在保留原有特色的基礎上,對原教材做了較大幅度的改進和擴充。
本套《練習與測試》為配合《綜合教程》的修訂版和高等學校套用能力考試(A,B級)而設計。和初版的《練習冊》相比,形式與內容有較大的調整和擴充,突出體現了鞏固教學內容與訓練學生應考能力並行不悖的雙重功能,所以改名為《練習與測試》。
