內容簡介
這本書的內容來自於一次特殊的活動。2007年12月我們邀請了美國耶魯大學的人類學和政治學教授詹姆斯?斯科特訪問中國社會科學院社會學研究所，由農村環境與社會研究中心和《社會學研究》編輯部聯合組織了一個研討會。這個研討會的內容就構成了這本書的主要內容。隨後，斯科特教授又在清華大學和中央民族大學發表了演講。全書的結構反映了我們討論的結構。在最初的設計中，我們曾經計畫分作三個專題，這三個專題對應著斯科特的三本已經翻譯成中文的著作，分別是《道義經濟》、《弱者的武器》和《國家的視角》；但是在討論中我們發現，表面上清晰的三個主題實際上有著密切的聯繫，所以我們保留了原來的三個部分，但是討論的內容有許多交叉。
