劇情簡介

年輕婦女馬蒂跟戀人Aaron去西部準備開創新生活，但是Aaron因為追逐脫韁的馬意外跌下馬背，正好摔倒了頭，當場死亡，馬蒂等了很久，卻是朋友ben馱著Aaron的屍體回來了。草草地辦完了喪屍，這時陌生人克拉克卻找到馬蒂說他知道很不合時宜，但是要給女兒一個有母親的壞境，即向她求婚，並承諾如果她同意，可以在明年春天給她出回城的路費。馬蒂當時連生活下去都沒有著落，所以最後還是同意嫁給了克拉克，而她自己還懷著Aaron的孩子。克拉克很尊重馬蒂，自己到另一個小屋裡去住。但是克拉克的小女兒Missie卻顯得很不懂事，排斥馬蒂，馬蒂因受不了Missie收拾行李要走時克拉克勸她說他相信她能讓Missie喜歡上她，馬蒂留下了，一天馬蒂看Missie哭著拿著自己的裙子拜祭去世的母親，馬蒂把裙子裁剪成了小裙子給Missie穿，並每天教她單詞和文法。漸漸地Missie喜歡上了馬蒂。馬蒂和死去的戀人Aaron的孩子要出生了，由於暴風雪找不到接生婆，克拉克要求自己給馬蒂接生，馬蒂很生氣，但是由於沒辦法還是同意了。一家人快樂地過了暴風雪肆虐的冬天。春天來了，馬蒂卻不想走了，因為她已經愛上了克拉克，但是出於禮數還是沒有提出要留下，每天收拾著行囊，她給克拉克的書里放了封信，希望他可以提出讓她留下來，因為她已經愛上了他，但是信意外落到了地上，馬蒂以為克拉克不希望她留下，也遺憾地走了。送走了馬蒂的克拉克回來到小屋子裡終於流淚了，並再一次向上帝祈禱讓他接受馬蒂走了的現實，這是他發現了那封信，於是快馬加鞭趕上了載著馬蒂回城的馬車隊，並鄭重地提出了讓馬蒂留下，因為他愛她。
