大連外國語大學英語學院

英語學院前身為英語系，成立於1970年，1996年更名為英語學院。經過40多年的發展，英語學院已經成為大連外國語大學具有相當規模和實力的教學研究單位，承擔著英語專業本科和碩士研究生兩個層面的教學任務，開展著國家級、省級、市級和校級上百項科研課題。

學院簡介

英語學院建設的英語學科為遼寧省省級重點學科。英語學院承擔著英語語言文學、外國語言學及套用語言學兩個碩士點的研究生教學工作，研究方向為英語文學、理論語言學、套用語言學、翻譯理論與實踐和中外文化比較，在校碩士生約300名。英語專業是國家特色專業建設點、遼寧省示範性專業，依託英語專業良好的基礎，2010年獲得教育部的批准增設了翻譯專業，英語學院現有本科在校生約1500名。

師資隊伍

英語學院擁有一支結構合理、治學態度嚴謹的師資隊伍。教授10名，副教授24名，講師16名，每年還聘請多位外國專家任教。英語學院教師中有國家級教學成果獎獲得者、遼寧省教學名師、遼寧省優秀教師、遼寧省優秀青年骨幹教師、大連市首批領軍人才、大連市優秀專家、大連市勞模、大連市優秀教師、大連市歸國留學人員創業英才等一批優秀骨幹；教師中先後有50多人次赴國外知名院校進修、學習和工作。

學科建設

通過全體教師的傾心努力，英語學院有3門課程獲得遼寧省省級“精品課”，3門課成為校級重點課。在最近兩屆優秀教學成果獎評比中，獲得國家級優秀教學成果獎1項，獲省優秀教學成果獎7項；在各種學術刊物上發表論文300餘篇，出版專著、譯著和教材200餘部。英語學院教師已承擔3項國家哲學社科基金項目和8項教育部項目和近百項省級科研課題。

教育教學

在教師的悉心指導和教育下，學生的語言基本功紮實，在全國英語專業四、八級統考中成績突出。在全國“CCTV”杯演講大賽、“外研社”杯英語辯論賽、“海峽兩岸口譯大賽”、“韓素音全國翻譯大賽”、大連市“楓葉杯”演講大賽、大連市大學生英語演講大賽、21世紀杯英語演講大賽、21世紀報寫作大賽等全國和地方賽事中取得優異成績。在社會實踐中，依託專業優勢，學生作為志願者為北京殘奧會、達沃斯會議、亞歐經貿部長小型會議、大連國際服裝節和各類經貿洽談會等重大活動提供服務。

對外交流

近年來，英語學院積極加大國際交流工作。目前與英國、美國、澳大利亞、紐西蘭、日本等國家的一些高等院校有實質性的交流項目。本科生的交流有2+2、2+1+1、3+2、3+1+1、3+2+1等模式；研究生教育的國際交流模式是1+1+1和1+2。

我院畢業生憑藉良好的專業素養和全面的綜合素質受到外交部、商務部等國家部委以及省市機關、金融機構、高等院校、國際公司的青睞。考取碩士研究生比例也連年提高，其中考取重點大學研究生的比例達60%以上，國外名校及清華、北大、北外、上外等國內重點高校年年榜上有名。40多年來，七千多名畢業生已經奔赴祖國各地，用他們的才華和努力為國家的建設和國際的交流做出了重要貢獻。

An Introduction to School of English Studies, Dalian University of Foreign Languages

School of English Studies (SES) of DalianUniversity of Foreign Languages (DUFL) was founded in 1970. It was formerly known as English Department and obtained its present name in 1996. With its continuous development for more than four decades, SES has become an important teaching and research institution in DUFL, one of the top foreign language universities in China, offering teaching programmes at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels and undertaking research projects at national and local levels.

SES has achieved status for its effective training of communicative skills in the past 43 years and it aims to educate students with good language proficiency, strong communicative skills, wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills, high moral standards and an international outlook. The English speciality at SES has won recognition as a key speciality with its own characteristics in China and an exemplary speciality in LiaoningProvince, resulting in the English language and literature becoming a key discipline in LiaoningProvince and the top department in 2012 Provincial English Speciality Evaluation. It offers undergraduate programmes, focusing on the English language, English literature, Chinese-English translation, Chinese-English interpretation, and intercultural communication with about 1500 students. In addition, it offers MA programmes on English literature, theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, translation studies, and cultural studies with about 300 postgraduates. With a solid foundation of the English language and literature speciality, SES has been authorised to run speciality of translation and interpretation since 2010.

SES has a faculty of 10 professors, 25 associate professors, 17 lecturers and a number of foreign experts, one of the strongest teams in China. Among the staff members are honour holders of a number of awards like the National Teaching Award, Provincial Teaching Award, Model Teacher of Liaoning Province, Excellent Teacher of Liaoning Province, Excellent Researcher of Liaoning Province, Excellent Expert of Dalian, Model Worker of Dalian, Excellent Teacher of Dalian, and Leading Researcher of Dalian. Most of the department’s staff members have overseas academic experience. The faculty has developed four courses which have won the title of “Quality Core Courses of Liaoning Province” and three more courses have won the titles of “Key Courses of DUFL”. The faculty has published dozens of monographs, more than 100 coursebooks and translated works, and over 300 articles in academic journals.

SES students stand out among English majors of nearly 1000 English departments in Chinese tertiary institutions. It ranks among the best in national examinations for English majors. Its students have excelled in a number of national and regional English contests such as the CCTV Cup National English Speech Contest, the national English Debate Contest, Interpretation Contest across the TaiwanStraits, Han Suyin National Translation Contest, the 21 Century National English Speech Contest, and the 21 century National English Writing Contest. They have also provided excellent services for important events such as the Paralympics in Beijing in 2008, the Davos Conference, and the Dalian International Fashion Festival.

SES is strengthening its international exchanges by establishing joint programmes with higher institutions in the UK, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The exchange follows the 2+2, 2+1+1, 3+2, 3+1+1, and 3+2+1 models at the undergraduate level and the 1+1+1 and 1+2 models at postgraduate level. There are also visiting scholar programmes with partner institutions.

The excellence of graduates also makes SES one of the most esteemed institutions in China. Graduates from SES are favoured at such institutions as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, national organisations, tertiary institutions, and international corporations. Over the past four decades, more than seven thousand students have finished their studies at SES, making vital contributions to the development of the country and understanding between nations of the world.
