1958年生,1982年畢業於武漢水利電力大學金屬材料專業,學士; 1985年畢業於華中理工大學金屬材料專業,碩士; 1990年畢業於華中理工大學金屬材料專業獲博士學位。 1985年起在華中理工大學材料學院任助教,1987年任講師,1992年晉升為副教授,1995年晉升為教授,1996-1998年在德國不萊梅大學進行客座研究。2000年被聘為華中科技大學博士生導師。
