本教材為我社“北京大學口腔醫學教材”系列教材，為我國培養高層次口腔醫學專門人才提供基本的、重要的教材，也可為口腔科和口腔頜面外科住院醫師、研究生提供一部完整的、具有中國特色的專業參考書。本教材第一版出版於2006 年，2013 年進行了第一次再版修訂。作為我國首部用於八年制口腔醫學專業學生教學的口腔頜面外科學教科書，在14 年的使用過程中，兩版受到了廣大師生的好評，並被評為北京高等教育精品教材和北京大學優秀教材，在前兩版的基礎上本教材增加了“口腔頜面部常用的整形美容”一章，並對相關知識進行了新增和拓展，同時採用了“進展與趨勢”“臨床連結”“臨床案例”等模組，方便學生學習。
