1998年，獲中山大學高分子研究所博士研究生學位；現任中山大學海洋學院教授，博士研究生導師，海洋微生物功能分子廣東省高校重點實驗室副主任。2003-2004年美國維吉尼亞大學訪問學者。研究方向主要為海洋天然產物的發現及套用。先後主持和承擔了863計畫項目，國家自然科學基金，國家海洋公益性行業專項等10餘項課題。在Tetrahedron、Organic Letter、J. Chromatogr、Planta Medica.、Mar. Drugs等雜誌發表論文60餘篇，獲授權專利發明10餘項。
