研究員，博士生導師。1982.09-1986.07，中南工業大學材料學院，獲工學學士學位；1996.9-1999.3，北京工業大學大學材料學院，獲工學碩士學位。2002.03-2006.06，北京工業大學材料學院，獲工學博士學位。1986.07-1994.07，在中南大學工作。1994年7月至今在北京工業大學工作。其間2006.08-2007.08及2009.06-09，在美國國家標準與技術研究所 (NIST) 訪問。自1986年以來，一直從事X射線衍射分析技術與套用、中子衍射分析與套用、新型功能材料探索、材料性能與結構關係研究等方面的實驗和理論工作。長期承擔或參加國家863、國家973、國家自然科學基金等項目工作。發表論文80餘篇，擁有授權國家發明專利10餘項。

劉丹敏，近年主要從事新型室溫磁致冷材料的研究，通過先進的製備手段得到性能優異的材料，並與美國NIST（National Institute of Standards and Technology）中子研究中心(NCNR)合作，採用中子衍射等分析手段對材料進行晶體結構和磁結構的分析研究，得到非常有意義的結構和性能關係的有關信息。研究成果在2009年被美國物理學會網站、紐約時報等幾十家重要媒體和網站報導。
研究方向
1.材料微觀結構表征；2.新型功能材料製備、材料微觀結構與性能關係研究。目前研究內容：1.新型室溫磁致冷材料；2.新型稀土硼化物功能材料；3.大型構件的應力研究；4.材料的擇優取向及其與性能關係研究。
