The old man then lay down and be-fore long he fell asleep. The young man took the big bag as quietly ashe could. But when he was about to run away, he found that a comerof his fur coat was under the old man' s body. Several timeshe tried to pull it out but failed. At last he took off his fur coat andwent away with the bag.
The young man ran out of the station as quickly as his legs couldcarry him. When he reached a place that he thought the old man couldnot find him, he stopped and quickly opened the bag.

序言
中國小學科奧林匹克是由體育奧林匹克借鑑、引中而來。體育奧林匹克是人類優秀運動員有關力量、靈活與美的競賽，類似地，目前在國內國外普遍開展的中國小學科奧林匹克，同樣是優秀中國小學生有關實力、靈活與美的競賽。這正是學科奧林匹克運動不分地域不分國界昌盛不衰的魅力所在。
中國小學科奧林匹克編輯部在精心研究了近幾年國內外這項活動及大量該類優秀圖書的基礎上，邀請了全國各地一些潛心耕耘於這塊園地的優秀園丁，編纂出版了一系列有關數學、語文、英語、物理、化學、生物、信息七大學科，教材輔導、同步訓練及近年學科競賽試卷彙編等類總計100多個品種的學科奧林匹克系列讀物。可謂傾盡全力，鞠躬盡瘁。
中國小時期是學生打知識基礎的階段。在這個階段，學生應該完成要我學到我要學的轉變。然而，目前中國小學生（尤其是大中城市的學生）普遍存在的問題是缺乏學習的主動積極性。沒有動力源，一切都無從談起。為了轉變這一現象，我們認為：一要給中國小學生提供豐富有趣的適合他（她）們喜聞樂讀的出版物，二要由老師、家長督促、幫助學生養成良好的學習習慣。國小、國中階段沒有形成好的學習習慣，到了高中就很難了。
中國小學科奧林匹克系列讀物不僅可以使聰明好學的好學生在自己學有餘力、學有潛力的學科不斷地攀登知識的高峰，儘早盡多地獲得解題的技能技巧，還可以使某些一時還沒有開竅或一時對某一學科不感興趣的學生不知不覺地對該學科產生濃厚的學習興趣，以致後來居上，一發而不收。因為這些孩子並不“笨”，相反，這些學生中的某些人是更有潛力的，問題是內因和外因沒有結合好。
