What machine works night and day without stopping? Your body! All of the different sys-tems of your body are constantly working, twenty-four hours a day.
Most of this work is not seen, and you can hardly feel it. For example, your heart beats aboutone hundred thousand times each day. You breathe about twenty-three thousand times a day, puttingyour lungs to work with every breath you take.Your stomach is busy turning solid food into liquid.
All through the day your body is destroying and producing cells in the blood. On an averageday, the body destroys two hundred and fifty million red blood cells.
Your brain is the busiest of all your body parts. No other part of the body works withoutsending a message to the brain. On an average day, the brain receives and acts on more than amillion messages from different parts of the body.
Outside of the body, many things are happening, too. You are constantly closing and openingyour eyes to keep them clean. Your brain is growing——about 1/1200 of an inch every day.Finally, your skin is changing, though very slowly. By the end of three weeks your old skin isgone, and the new skin takes its place.

為滿足全國中等職業技術學校英語教學的需要,我們於1994年推出了技術學校飯店服務專業教改教材《飯店英語》。該書自出版發行以來,受到了廣大中職師生的普遍好評。但是,隨著飯店服務業的迅速發展,新的服務理念、規範、方法不斷湧現,對飯店服務專業的英語課教學提出了新的要求。為此,我們對《飯店英語》進行了修訂。
為了與其他專業的英語教材相統一,便於學校選用,修訂後的《飯店英語》更名為:全國中等職業技術學校飯店服務專業教材《英語》。
在內容安排上,本教材兼顧了英語的一般知識點、語言點、基礎語法、常用辭彙、日常會話等以及與飯店服,務專業密切相關的實用的專業辭彙、專業用語,既為學生的後續英語學習打下基礎,又突出了職業教育特色。
