鑒於在漢英文學翻譯及中國現當代女性作家作品在英語世界的接受等方面的研究仍十分匱乏，《外國語言文學與文化研究文庫：中國現當代女作家作品英譯史研究》試圖從性別視角對20世紀30年代以來的現當代女性作家作品英譯史進行研究。
全書對翻譯史研究及性別視角下的相關研究的主要成果進行了文獻綜述，並在此基礎上提出了主要研究問題：（1）不同時期的女性作家英譯作品有何特點，發展趨勢如何；（2）譯者，尤其是女性譯者，如何推動女性作品的英譯，並且影響作品在目的語文化中的接受；（3）社會語境，尤其是性別語境如何影響女性作品的英譯。《外國語言文學與文化研究文庫：中國現當代女作家作品英譯史研究》的研究對象為五四時期以來的現當代女性作家英譯作品與譯者。作品包括女性主義及非女性主義作家創作的小說、短篇故事、散文、自傳及詩歌等，重點是女性主義作家的小說、短篇故事及自傳。女性譯者是研究的重點對象.其譯作中體現出的女性意識與女性主義特色均得到了深入研究。
依據中國與西方社會語境的變化以及翻譯活動本身的特點，中國現當代女性文學英譯史可分為三個時期：20世紀30至60年代、70與80年代，以及90年代起至今。《外國語言文學與文化研究文庫：中國現當代女作家作品英譯史研究》主要採用描述性翻譯研究方法與定性研究方法分析三個時期內的現當代女性文學英譯史。性別視角為研究的主線，並對翻譯中東方主義的表現進行了深入探討。研究分析了現當代女作家英譯作品以及譯作的副文本（paratext），並且通過比較研究等方法對個別文本進行深入分析以揭示社會環境與性別因素對翻譯的影響。
