3. Without her friends from home, Katie was intent on making new ones. She also took a part-time job, which required night shifts. Her classes took a back seat. "My nights were filled with drinking and partying, my early mornings with working, and that left my days for sleeping," recalls Katie.

一、編寫宗旨
1.深入貫徹《高職高專教育英語課程教學基本要求(試行)》,堅持“以套用為目的、實用為主、夠用為度”的大方向,強調打好語言基礎和培養語言套用能力並重,強調語言基本技能的訓練和培養實際從事涉外交際活動的語言套用能力並重。
2.兼顧高等學校英語套用能力考試A、B級考試大綱的要求,使教考結合。
3.充分考慮高職高專學生的英語基礎現狀,最大限度地使教材與學生的基礎相適應,與培養目標相一致。
4.堅持運用現代語言學習理論指導教材的編寫,充分體現認知規律。
二、全書框架
考慮到高職高專學生的英語基礎現狀以及地區差異,為了兼顧不同起點的學習者,我們共編寫了6冊讀寫教程(其中入門2冊),供各院校根據自己的實際情況選擇使用。
各冊都分別配有教師用書、電子課件與錄音磁帶。教參設計科學,把學生用書與講解部分融合一體,給教者提供了極大的便利,教者只帶一本教參就可上課。
