史蒂芬·泰勒在音樂的沐浴下長大，受父親的影響，他從3歲時就開始聽蕭邦、巴赫、貝多芬等人的古典音樂。受這些音樂啟發，史蒂芬·泰勒創作了《Dream On》的和弦。史蒂芬·泰勒想要通過《Dream On》，表達史密斯飛船樂隊能夠一路順風走向成功的願望。1972年，該曲在美國麻薩諸塞州完成錄製。
