Tank God於2016年12月在康乃狄克大學製作了《rockstar》的Beat部分。後來他在紐約找到了波茲·馬龍，並將Beat交給了馬龍。當時波茲·馬龍和Joey Badass感覺歌曲中有一部分很彆扭，於是他們剪掉了一點聲音，將小樣帶帶到洛杉磯完成了波茲·馬龍部分的錄製。錄製完成後，波茲·馬龍將歌曲發給了21 Savage，之後21 Savage也完成了他的部分。
