在TS16949質量管理體系中，COP又指顧客導向過程。經過COP分析，明確顧客價值創造過程，有哪些要求，如何滿足這些要求，對提高質量管理水平有決定性的意義。
COP是指這樣一些過程，也就是他們開始於顧客的輸入，並產生輸出交給客戶，是與客戶相互作用的基本過程。

俚語
學英語的人都知道police是警察的意思，可在美國人們說警察普遍用cop這個詞。對英文有些研究的人會說，cop是police的俚語，不是警察的正式用語。那可真是太學究了，因為現在連美國總統、美國國會說警察也常常用cop這個詞。其實cop和police或“原指警察制服上的銅扣子，慢慢人們就以扣子代警察了”都沒什麼關係，但是cop可以說是從copper而來的。根據下面的英文，我們可以看到cop是1700左右進入英語辭彙（原本屬於法語中的caper及後來的拉丁語capere，其實是今天capture的意思），是“抓捕、抓獲”的意思。1846年，有報刊在cop後面加上了“er”的後綴，表示“抓捕或逮捕犯罪的人”。在1859年，cop作為copper的縮寫開始流行起來。
