PUBLICATIONS
Book
Uber John Rawls'politischen Liberalismus (Frankfurt: Peter Lang, 1998). A monograph on Rawls's
post-1985 philosophy. I argue that political liberalism faces the problem that liberal principles can be
justified reciprocally acceptable only if the addressees of such a justification endorse points of view
that suitably support liberal content. Rawls responds to this problem by restricting public
justification's scope to include reasonable people only, while construing reasonableness as a
substantive liberal virtue. But, I argue, this is not reasonable: reasonable people will take it that
political justice does not obtain if basic political principles are acceptable from their point of view
only. Thus, political liberalism needs a deeper and more inclusive conception of political legitimacy.
