內容簡介
"The World of Baroque Music" is a collection of essays by leading scholars on Baroque music. Each focuses on a different city, court, or region, and profiles the critical developments in that location for a single genre (song, opera, keyboard music, guitar, trio sonata, etc.) and is complemented by beautiful paintings and original scores from the period. "The World of Baroque Music" covers the entire span of the baroque, with topics ranging from early Italian opera in Florence to synagogue music in Mantua, from Italian women composers to the solo song in Shakespeare's England. This volume utilizes a wide variety of approaches as the contributors examine economic, religious, and sociological influences on the Baroque style. Contributors are Michael Beckerman, Gerard Behague, Victor Coelho, Barbara Russano Hanning, Wendy Heller, Daniel R. Melamed, Craig Monson, Mary Oleskiewicz, David Schulenberg, Kerala J. Snyder, and George B. Stauffer. George B. Stauffer is Dean of the Mason Gross School of the Arts and Professor of Music History at Rutgers University. He has written extensively on the music and culture of the Baroque Era and the life and music of J.S. Bach in particular. He is author, most recently, of "Bach: The Mass in B Minor" (Yale University Press, 2003) and contributor to numerous American, European, and Asian publications. He has held Guggenheim, Fulbright, and ACLS fellowships and is a past president of the American Bach Society.
