創作背景
《The Ultimate Luther Vandross》是已故R&B歌手路德·范德魯斯的紀念精選集，由路德·范德魯斯、Warryn Campbell、Anthony Crawford、Nat Adderley Jr.、Walter Afanasieff、Jimmy Jam&Terry Lewis、Bryan-Michael Cox聯合製作。
2003年，路德·范德魯斯身患中風，於2005年7月1日去世，享年54歲。專輯中除了以往路德·范德魯斯的歌曲作品外，還加入兩首此前未公開發行的歌曲《Shine》和《Got You Home》。這張精選集“放棄”了路德·范德魯斯早年多首很有代表性的歌曲，而是更多的選擇了他後期的作品。
同時，除了單張的《The Ultimate Luther Vandross》精選集，唱片公司還發行了雙張的特別版，其中還加入了七首不同的重新混音版本的歌曲。

專輯鑑賞
《The Ultimate Luther Vandross》的誕生只是赤裸裸的商業目的，除了前兩首此前未發行過的《Shine》和《Got You Home》。從各方面來說，《The Ultimate Luther Vandross》都是一張難以另人滿意的精選集。如果要挑一張路德·范德魯斯作為收藏的話，聽眾可以有很多選擇，但絕對不是這張。
在這張《The Ultimate Luther Vandross》之前，路德·范德魯斯已經面世的精選集有很多種，其中歌迷評價最好的當屬1989年的《The Best Of Luther Vandross:The Best Of Love》和2003年的《The Esssential Of Luther Vandross》，並不明白唱片公司發行這張精選集誕生的必要，在路德·范德魯斯的眾多忠實的支持者看來，唱片公司的做法簡直是匪夷所思的，也是他們不願意接受的。但為了路德·范德魯斯的兩首“新”歌，還是得委屈的掏腰包。
