創作背景

歌曲由埃米納姆創作，製作人是The 45 King，副歌部分截取於蒂朵的歌曲《Thank You》。一天，The 45 King從電視中看到了《Thank You》這首歌，於是把這首歌第一部分記錄了下來。然後，The 45 King把樣帶寄給了埃米納姆。幾天后，The 45 King寫信給蒂朵，希望她同意埃米納姆對她歌曲的採樣。

埃米納姆在歌曲講述了一個為自己而死的歌迷的故事，埃米納姆想以此警示歌迷，分清他歌中的虛實。歌曲中，斯坦的歌詞"I drank a fifth of vodka, dare me to drive?"源自埃米納姆的歌曲《My Name Is》。

歌中包含了蒂朵女聲憂鬱的唱腔，和埃米納姆那帶著濃厚鼻音的說唱。首先是一陣雨聲、蒂朵憂愁的獨唱，當鼓點進入，埃米納姆的音調和音高都突然降了下來。《Stan》中，不可思議的取樣、flow、歌曲結構、書信體的表述、情感的融入都是完美的。在這個過程中，嗓音逐漸升高，而flow也變的越來越狂亂。這首歌也確立了埃米納姆在敘事型作品中屬於自己的風格特點，它給人一種清晰地畫面感。
