創作背景

《My Funny Friend and Me》是斯汀和大衛·哈特利共同為迪士尼卡通電影《變身國王》撰寫的歌曲。影片《變身國王》在1994年籌備之初，原打算拍成地點在南美洲的史詩巨片《太陽王國》（Kingdom in the Sun），但兩年之後迪士尼發覺這樣不太有趣，還是拍令人發笑的電影好。由於影片的定位由最初的史詩創作突然轉向，使得斯汀花了兩年時間與精力創作的音樂全都白費了，然而這並沒有氣跑斯汀，他心甘情願地重頭再來。

因為斯汀從小就是看《睡美人》、《森林王子》等迪斯尼電影長大，所以當迪斯尼邀請他加入工作陣容，讓他受寵若驚。幫迪斯尼電影寫歌，就代表這些歌會一代一代地被流傳下去，每年都會有孩童知道並歌唱——這是吸引斯汀為電影創作歌曲的原因。

《My Funny Friends And Me》除了讓人感佩迪士尼的動畫音樂耕耘，更多的是應該給予首度為動畫製作音樂就吃盡苦頭的斯汀的一些掌聲。

由於迪斯尼對影片的音樂要求非常苛刻，連斯汀這樣的音樂人都是在幾乎要放棄的情況下才完成的，所以才造就了該曲一出便一鳴驚人。
