Mindy Smith的父親是個牧師，母親是全職家庭主婦。她有一個哥哥和兩個姐姐，在長島長大。在1991年，她媽媽死於癌症，Mindy Smith搬到辛辛那提市住了兩年，然後於1998年搬到納什維爾開始了她的音樂生涯。
成名
Mindy Smith在2003年因為在向Dolly Parton致敬的專輯Just Because I'm a Woman中演唱而出名。她的成名曲是Parton的經典曲目Jolene。Dolly Parton在歌中擔任了伴唱，這首歌(作為Bonus track)於2004年一月被收錄在她的處女專輯One Moment More中。"Come to Jesus"是Mindy Smith的第二張熱賣單曲，被多家電台熱播。這首歌進入了Billboard's Adult Top 40，"One Moment More"是這張專輯的最後單曲。2004年，Mindy Smith 出現在由BBC電台直播的英國的Cambridge民謠音樂節。在專輯巡演期間，她還唱了Susan Ashton的"No One Knows My Heart"，但是到現在還沒有被收錄。
