John Robert Powers

John Robert Powers（1892年4月16日—1977年11月）曾是美國演員和一個著名的建模機構的創始人之一，1923年，John Robert Powers在紐約成立了著名的JRP建模學校。以JRP機構為代表的眾多模特都相繼在好萊塢電影業獲得成功，甚至包括美國第一夫人Betty Bloomer （Mrs. Gerald Ford）。JRP的絕大部分客戶為女性，只要是“Powers Girl”都會在影視界，娛樂界或所謂的上流社會處於一個非常搶手的位置。學校內大堂掛著露西爾·鮑爾（ Lucille Ball）、瑪麗蓮·夢露（ Marilyn Monroe）、 約翰·韋恩（John Wayne）的照片。

History

John Robert Powers(April 16, 1892 – November 1977) was an Americanactorand founder of a prominentNew York City-basedmodeling agency.He is considered as the founder of the modeling industry.

It was in the 1920's whenhecame to New York City to pursue an acting career. One day, he needed to gather a group of attractive people for a magazine advertisement not knowing that it would pave the way for what today is a billion dollar modeling industry.

He founded the first modeling agency in 1923. Soon afterwards, he opened the doors to a personality development school and created a curriculum that was to be the core for executive skills, modeling, acting and social skills. His JRP center was the very first personality development center in the U.S.A. At its height, the school was so significant within the industry thatHollywoodmade a 1943musical comedyfilm titledThe Powers Girlin whichAlan Mowbrayportrays Powers and features Anne Shirley and Carole Landisas aspiring models.

Powers believed that there wasno such thing as an unattractive person, only people who did not know how to make the most of themselves. Naturalness was his gospel. He encourages his female students to"make down, instead of make-up". To date, our schools still believe and teach this philosophy.Be yourself. Be natural.
