著名鄉村詞曲搭檔Mike Reid 和Allen Shamblin 共同創作了I Can't Make You Love Me，歌曲的靈感來自於Mike Reid看到新聞里說有個男人在醉酒之後朝他女友的汽車開槍被警察逮捕，在法庭上法官問酒醒後的他從中學到了什麼，他說:You can't make a woman love you if she don't!
美國著名鄉村和Blues女歌手Bonnie Raitt在1991年的專輯《Luck of the Draw》當中演唱了這個首歌曲，她把歌曲的速度放慢之後演唱帶有幾分沉靜而又略帶傷感的色彩，而鋼琴演奏家Bruce Hornsby的電鋼琴音色也讓聽者陷入沉思！這張專輯為Bonnie Raitt贏得了四項格萊美大獎，在1992年的格萊美頒獎典禮晚會上進行了現場演繹。
