Phil Collins全名Philip David Charles Collins，於1951年1月30日生於倫敦西部一個叫CHISWICK的小鎮。少年時就讀於一家戲劇學校，12歲開始學習打鼓，19歲時加入搖滾樂隊Gensis（創世紀）做鼓手。當時樂隊已成立了2、3年，深受好評。1974年是這支樂隊的顛峰時期，他們的搖滾歌劇“百老匯的祭祀羔羊”反映十分強烈。但在次年5月，樂隊主唱Peter Gabriel離開樂隊，樂隊面臨解散的危機。這時Collins才走到了台前，擔任起了主唱。1981年，柯林斯正式開始個人的發展。首張專輯名為《Pace Value(臉面的價值)》，其中單曲《In The Air Tonight(今晚夜空中)》獲排行榜亞軍，專輯列排行榜首,第一張專輯也成為白金唱片。1984年，菲爾·柯林斯為電影《困難重重(Against All odds)>創作主題曲，該曲在美國連獲三周排行榜冠軍，並獲當年奧斯卡電影最佳插曲獎的提名。 1985年專輯《No Jacket Required(不需夾克)》推出後在美國連獲七周冠軍，單曲《One Nore Night(再紿我一個夜晚)》也蟬聯兩周第一名。 1989年推出的單曲《天堂里的又一天(Another Day ln Psradise)》在英美迅速奪冠，專輯《鄭重其事(Be Seriously)》在英國連續十星期高居榜首。1991年，已過不惑之年的菲爾·柯林斯同時榮獲美國音樂獎最佳搖滾藝術家和格蘭美最佳單曲、最佳個人專輯獎。Phil Collins
