作者簡介

Randy Gallaway was a typical little boy with a normal childhood, until his senior year in high school, when a part time job two months before graduation took him onto the roof of a Fort Worth factory to help repair an electrical transformer.
That's when somebody below flipped a switch.
"A 13,000 volt power line was turned on," Randy said. "My co-worker was killed, blown off the building. I was blown a different direction."
Randy says it was like getting struck by lightning, except that's a flash and it's over.
Power lines continue the current, so while his co-worker was killed instantly, Randy just lay there sizzling.
"My clothes were on fire, bones burned, right hand and arm destroyed, left hand destroyed. My watch exploded. I just cried out "God, please save me."
The prognosis at the hospital: Randy was cooked from the inside out and at most, he might live 24 hours.
But one doctor argued with all the others, to take Randy into surgery and at least try to keep him alive.
"The only way to give me another day was to amputate my right arm and left hand," Randy said.
That one surgery turned into 38 surgeries, and now, 47 years later, Randy believes it is a miracle that he is alive.
"They had hope and hope kept me alive, and God answers to prayer. So that's my life message," he says. "Never give up."
Randy says another miracle for him was finding Mary Ann.
She says she knew early on that he was the right man for her.
"I just felt impressed that this was the person I was going to marry," she said.
"And I'd prayed for nine years for a wife. It's not easy dating when you have two amputated arms. She was a real answer to prayer," Randy said.
Randy and Mary Ann were married almost 40 years ago.
To see them now in the car he drives, in the house where they have raised their two children, it all seems so normal. But Randy's hardware has improved through the years. He started with a hook on each hand but now uses a mechanical arm on one side. Each of the three he has used through the years gets more sophisticated than the last.
"Now I've got the Ottobock Michelangelo Hand," he says proudly. "It can change shapes and it works from the nerve signals in my shoulder."
Today, Randy travels around the world, speaking to schools and community groups, finding others who have been injured or lost limbs.
"I'm trying to inspire hope and creativity and perseverance that life is more than what you see in the mirror," he says.
Meanwhile, somewhere along the way, Randy has found time to graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Doctor of Ministry.
But perhaps his proudest accomplishment is this story of his life, "Death Knocking, Life Calling," that was just released this week.
He thanks Mary Ann on the first page.
Using his claw to turn the book to the first page, he reads aloud, "Since I met Mary Ann, she has been the love of my life. I am truly blessed."
Mary Ann whispers, "Thank you dear. You're wonderful," in a soft, shy voice.
In 1967, who would have thought a boy who was burned to the bone with a gaping hole in his side and both arms destroyed, would someday decorate a Christmas tree with his wife at his side, planning Christmas with their grandchildren and celebrating a book about his life.
Randy says he hopes his story will help others who are struggling.
"It's a story of hope, love, a story of overcoming, a story of incredible obstacles through prayer, faith and the encouragement of others and the perseverance to find life and hope and joy through the fire," Randy says.
Randy's book, "Death Knocking, Life Calling: The Amazing True Story of Randy and Mary Ann Gallaway" is available at Amazon.com.
Randy will be in Lubbock for a book signing at Cattle Baron's restaurant on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. His book will be available for purchase there.
