Hoover高中的孩子們注定要度過一個難忘的舞會之夜。
校花Shelley沒去舞會；校草Kevin約了書呆子Angela（Traci Gold）；Patrice繼續把不順她心意的事情全怪在她男朋友Roger身上；
父母也很忙：Nancy and Larry必須在修補婚姻或者離婚當中選一條路走，Jack（Alan Thicke）整晚跟蹤兒子Dan想知道他為什麼不去舞會 ；保護欲過頭的Ed and Ruth整晚都在監視女兒Angela。
