Malaysia is one of the world's 12 megadiverse countries （Rohizam， 2009）. Its coral reefs are valuable economic and biological resources， where they are a majorattraction for the tourism industry and a natural wave breaker for coastal protection.Coral reefs are the home to a multitude of marine life， and there are 1，354 marinefish species in Malaysia， in which 798 are reef-associated （Froese and Pauly，2018）. In recent years， coral reefs in Malaysia are under threat， due to uncontrolleddevelopment， pollution and overfishing. The Department of Marine Park Malaysiawas established to protect and manage the abundant biodiversity in the waterssurrounding the 42 islands that make up Malaysia's marine parks covering an area of 2，486.13 km2. These marine parks are defined as seawaters which are of a distance of 2 nautical miles seawards from the outermost point of the low water mark， and actingas a sanctuaries for the protection of coastal marine ecosystems.
