歌曲背景
《Beautiful dreamer》（美麗的夢神），大約創作於1862年間。當時佛斯特其在紐約，經濟拮据，生活困頓，在乏人照料之下，日夜思念妻子珍妮，因而寫出如此動人的歌曲。因而這首歌的風格比另一首寫給珍妮的歌《金髮的珍妮》更為感傷。《美麗的夢神》不論是歌詞或旋律，都是其他思念親友的歌曲所無法比擬的。這首曲子也是創作的民謠歌曲中少有的三拍子歌曲。
