Thanks to the ma jor breakthrough in new cost-effective and advanced instrumentation and communication equipments, coordination of distributed groups of electromechanical systems finds applications in various fields of engineering, including hazardous material handling, exploration, environmental monitoring and industrial process control. Compared to a single mechanical system, the networked cooperative systems have many advantages such as higher efficiency, stronger capability and greater flexibility. Due to this engineering motivation, distributed cooperative control of large groups of electromechanical systems has attracted a great deal of attention from the control community. The objective in writing this research monograph is to summarize our work in cooperative control of networked electromechanical systems.
