Mr. Yang, who had just purchased a newcar, put the bumper sticker on his car and earnestlysaid, "I bought a car today, and I pledge to driveone less day each month."
In 2005, more than 500 auto clubs, environ-mental activists, college groups, media groups andcorporations came up with the idea of a campaignto "drive one less day each month," which was applauded by hundreds of thousands of car own- ers who have pledged to contribute to cleaner air in Beijing.
