生物入侵與適應性進化學科組2005年從原魚類分類學科組分離而來,側重於研究我國淡水魚類多樣性的起源與演化規律、高原地區魚類的適應性以及生物入侵等領域。學科組研究的主要科學問題有:(1)魚類在入侵過程中產生的進化反應以及水體生態系統對生物入侵的回響;(2)高原極端環境條件下魚類的適應性進化;(3)全球變化背景下我國淡水魚類的時空分布以及多樣性演化與環境變化的關係等。
