個人經歷
他最擅長粗暴和稍帶反派的角色，1977年在銀幕處女作《尋找顧巴先生》中飾
演殺人狂魔就著實嚇壞了不少人。
1979年湯姆以《虎豹小霸王前集》躍升為主角，1986年以越戰名片《野戰排》榮獲奧斯卡男配角提名，雖最終空手而歸，但演藝事業卻正式起飛。1989年在《大聯盟》中嘗試喜劇演出，且反映不俗。近年多在片中擔任配角，曾與Barbara Wilson 和 Lisa Williams有過兩段失敗的婚姻，1997年與現任妻子Patricia Alvaran再婚。
在《盜夢空間》中出演Browning-布朗寧。作為Fischer-費舍（希里安·墨菲飾演）的教父。
