《港口與港市文化》由16個單元構成，分別介紹了世界上16個主要港口以及港口所在城市的情況，其中亞洲6個，歐洲5個，美洲2個，非洲2個，澳洲1個。第一部分為中文導讀，簡略介紹各個港口的概況，附有港口城市的圖片。第二部分包含閱讀課文、閱讀理解題、辭彙填空、段落填空4個項目。閱讀課文長度約1000至1500詞，全面介紹港口的情況，包括地理位置、歷史沿革、碼頭布局、設備設施、發展規劃等內容。課文採用正文與注釋並列排版，左右對應，一目了然。課文之後是8道閱讀理解題，用來檢測閱讀理解的情況。辭彙填空共15題，介紹港口英語主要辭彙的用法。段落填空為一篇500字的文章，有10個填空題，主要檢查英語閱讀的綜合能力。所有練習的材料都同課文介紹的港口和城市相關，做到內容上的連貫和一致。第三部分介紹港口城市，由閱讀課文和練習兩個部分組成。課文介紹了城市的歷史、文化、習慣、風景名勝等內容，有些課文是遊客的感想和印象。課文配有詳細的生詞表，對於了解港口城市有很大幫助。練習圍繞課文內容，包括篇章改錯和段落翻譯兩種形式，具有一定難度，反映了英語考試的趨勢。考慮到港口英語的特點，我們對本教程所涉及的材料都進行了精心挑選、改編和增減，在注釋和練習編寫上下了工夫。我們相信，通過本書的學習，學習者基本上可以掌握閱讀港口材料的基本辭彙和句型，為閱讀難度更大的航運方面的文章打下良好的基礎；同時，也見識了海港所在城市的社會與歷史、經濟與文化、人文與地理、風土與人情等方面的內容與知識。
