楊玉冰出身書香門第，自幼練習書法，從八十年代開始對我國傳統根藝進行研究與創作並成功投入市場。九十年代在傳統根藝的基礎上將我國“農耕文化”、“傳統吉祥物”及“民俗風情”等人們喜聞樂見的題材溶入根藝創作中，在根藝界形成了楊玉冰新流派。繼2009年7月奈及利亞、賴比瑞亞、牙買加三位根雕藝術大國的駐華全權特命大使親臨樂山市五通橋拜訪楊玉冰先生並參加其五通橋根石家藝術展館開館揭幕以及之後的中外媒體大量宣傳報導以來，已有越來越多的世界根雕、奇石藝術已開發國家的駐華使節和藝術家們對楊玉凍的根書藝術產生了極大的興趣，並紛紛邀請楊玉冰先生講學訪問。楊玉冰大師創作的根書“道”字（規格100x82cm）在北京萬隆拍賣會上拍出二十萬元人民幣的高價。
所獲榮譽
楊玉冰大師2009年被中國根藝美術學會授予“中國根藝美術大師”稱號和全國根藝最高獎項“劉開渠根藝金獎”，同年被文化部中國鄉土藝術協會授予“中國鄉土藝術大師”終身榮譽稱號；被聯合國國際科學和平周組委會授予“和平使者”獎；
2010年初，被中國藝術家協會等聯合單位授予全國藝術界的最高榮譽“中國德藝雙馨藝術家”光榮稱號。以介紹楊玉冰先生作品為主的根石家藝術機構網站每天被眾多海內外華人瀏覽，楊玉冰先生也多次受到國內外黨政要人的接見，中央及地方媒體爭相報導，中央電視台、中國教育電視台、四川衛視、新華社、人民日報、光明日報曾多次專題報導；著名書畫家歐陽中石、黃永玉、李鐸、李中貴、黃正襄、孫菊生、楊年耀、張志堅等也給予其根書藝術高度評價並題詞。

Brief Introduction to Mr. Yang Yubing’s Art
Yang Yubing, male, Han nationality, born in Wutongqiao, Leshan, Sichuan in 1953, is a well-known calligrapher, master of tree-root calligraphy and vernacular art in China. As the founder of the art institute Root Rock Gallery (Genshijia), he now is the art director and curator of Root Rock Gallery. Raised in a literary family, Yang Yubing learned and practiced calligraphy as a child. He began researching traditional Chinese root art from 1980s and created works at the same time, which had been put on the market successfully. Based on the traditional root art, he blended the Chinese subjects popular among the Chinese people like “farming culture”, “traditional mascot” and “folk custom” into his creation of root art, forming a new school in root art circle-Yang Yubing School. Since the three ambassadors extraordinary to China from the large root carving countries of Nigeria, Liberia and Jamaica paid a personal visit to Mr. Yang Yubing in Wutongqiao, Leshan City and attended the opening ceremony of his Wutongqiao Root Rock Art Gallery in July 2009, and the vigorous dissemination of reports by various media sources at home and abroad subsequently, more and more envoys of countries with developed root carving and strange stone arts to China have become closely interested in his tree-root calligraphy, inviting him to pay lecture visits. The Chinese character of “Dao” (100x82cm) Master Yang Yubing wrote in the style of tree-root calligraphy was sold for RMB 200,000 at Beijing Wanlong Auction. In 2009, Master Yang Yubing was honored with the title of “Chinese Master of Root Art” and the national highest award of “Gold Medal of Liu Kaiqu Root Art” by Chinese Association of Root Art, and conferred the lifelong title of honor of “Chinese Master of Vernacular Art” by Chinese Association of Vernacular Art under Ministry of Culture at the same year; he was awarded with “ Peace Messenger Award” by Organizing Committee of Peace Week of United Nations International Science; in early 2010, he was conferred with the honorable title of “Chinese Artist of Moral and Artistic Qualities”, the blue ribbon in the art circles by China Artist Association and other associated units. The website of the art institute of Root Rock Gallery mainly introducing works of Mr. Yang Yubing is explored by numerous Chinese at home and abroad. Mr. Yang Yubing was also received by many party and political celebrities at home and abroad. He received intense media coverage from the central to the local. CCTV, CETV, Sichuan Satellite TV, Xinhua Agency, People's Daily and Guangming Daily, all had ever given special coverage for many times. Famous Calligraphers & Painters Ouyang Zhongshi, Huang Yongyu, Li Duo, Li Zhonggui, Huang Zhengxiang, Sun Jusheng, Yang Nianyao and Zhang Zhijian, has also highly appraised his tree-root calligraphy.
