本文集是從李博院士的176篇學術著作中精選出來的52篇學術論文。內容包括在學術刊物上正式發表的、在各種學術會議上宣讀的、收在有關專著中的、在國際學術會議的特邀報告和大會發言。有關千旱、半乾阜地區植被生態學和草地生態學方面的論述,以及其他生態學領城的專著和報告等。
文集反映了李博院士近40年在乾旱、半乾旱區植被生態學方面的學術成果，特別是80年代以來，把遙感及地理信息系統等現代技術套用於草場資源調查與動態監測，使草地生態學的科學水平邁上一個新台階。
