作者簡介
毛姆（W·Somerset Maugham，1874年—1965年）英國著名小說家，劇作家，散文家。曾先後 就讀於坎特伯雷的國王學校和德國海德堡大學，後到倫敦聖托馬斯醫院學醫，並取得外科醫師資格。1897年開始創作，1915年《人性的枷鎖》問 世，1919年《月亮與六便士》出版，引起巨大反響，奠定了了他作為世界小說家的地位。毛姆被公認為20世紀在全世界範圍內流行很廣、很受歡迎的英國 作家之一，被譽為“很會講故事的天才作家”。他的小說機智、幽默，常在譏諷中潛藏對人性的憐憫與同情。1952年，牛津大學授予他名譽博士學位。1954 年，英王授予他“榮譽侍從”的稱號。
