普皮·阿瓦蒂，1938年11月3日出生於義大利博洛尼亞，導演。年少時就讀獸醫學校，退學加入樂團擔任吹奏爵士黑管手，併到冷凍食品工廠工作。十年後與兄弟好友合資成立電影製片公司，從此開始製作並執導電影。1975年，他給帕索里尼編寫《索多瑪120天》。在1980年製作完驚悚片《Macabro》後，與其兄弟另組公司，在整個80年代都致力於製作通俗喜劇，接連拍攝一連串受歡迎的娛樂片。1991年《少男少女的故事》打開了美國市場。同年執導的首部英語電影《Bix》一部描述享年僅28歲的爵士歌手BixBeiderbecke一生浮沉的傳記電影，亦獲大眾喜好。1994年再次執導的第二部英語電影《童年的朋友》遭受嚴重挫敗，
