《抑制機制與外語閱讀研究》基於Gernsbacher1990年提出的結構建構（Structure Building）理論進一步探討了英語閱讀、心理表征建構與英語語言水平之間的內在聯繫。在研究過程中，作者進行了英語水平和英語閱讀測試，經過對測試數據的分析、推理、歸納，作者得出了研究結論：1.英語閱讀直接受心理表征建構的影響；2.心理表征建構直接受英語語言水平的影響；3.英語閱讀直接受英語語言水平的制約。
