主要從事環境動物學，遺傳毒理學，污染生態學等方面的研究工作。參與編寫出版專著4部，主編出版教材1部，獲甘肅省科技進步二等獎1項，甘肅省教學成果二等獎1項，在Journal of Arid Environments(SCI)，Italian Journal Zoology(SCI)，European Journal Histochemistry(SCI)，Environmental Monitoring Assessment(SCI)，Waterbirds(SCI)，Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry(SCI)，Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology(SCI)，動物學研究，環境科學，蘭州大學學報，水生生物學報，套用與環境生物學報及套用生態學報等國內外刊物上以本人為主發表論文50餘篇。2000年以來主持完成歐共體項目子課題、教育部優秀青年教師基金、教育部骨幹教師基金、甘肅省自然科學基金以及中科院沙漠所和水生所開放基金等科研項目6項。目前主持在研的科研項目有國家自然科學基金項目、教育部重點科學技術項目、甘肅省自然科學基金項目及蘭州市科技計畫項目4項。主要研究環境污染對動物生態、生理生化及遺傳功能等產生的生物學效應與機制，以及這些生物對污染環境的指示作用。研究工作學科交叉性強，涉及到污染生態學、細胞組織學、生物化學、遺傳毒理學、分子生物學及環境化學等學科。

1994年-2006年先後4次赴義大利帕維亞大學動物生物學系開展合作研究工作；
