劇情簡介
孤寡老人哈里和他心愛的貓湯托相依為命，由於政府徵用土地，哈里只得帶著老貓到他兒子伯特家去住。伯特忍受不了父親的嘮叨，要他保持沉默，哈里對這種要求無法忍受，遂決定芝加哥去找女兒雪莉。哈里專門為湯託買了一輛舊車，因為公共運輸工具都不允許帶動物。路上，他認識了一個叫辛格的小伙子，兩人結伴而行。到了芝加哥，哈里見到了孫子諾曼，便又帶著諾曼和辛格到好萊塢，他的另一個兒子埃迪在那裡。很快，哈里又感到了不滿，於是他離開了埃迪家，轉道去聖莫尼卡。途中，老貓湯托老死了，孤獨的哈里渴望著能同一個同樣愛貓的獨身老婦度過餘生。
