一直很受獨立製片人歡迎卡爾·麥克拉赫倫出生華盛頓州雅基馬並那裡長大1982年從華盛頓大學畢業大衛·林奇（David Lynch）改編自弗蘭克·赫伯特（Frank herbert）小說1984年影片《沙丘》（Ddune）中麥克拉赫倫首次亮相大銀幕但真正成功還兩年後與林奇再度合作《藍絲絨》（Blue Velvet）；次年經典科幻片《異形附身》（The Hidden）中扮演FBI一角似乎成了事業一個轉折林奇為ABC執導系列劇《雙峰》（Twin Peaks）中再次扮演特工庫柏這可能也最著名角色為贏得了一尊金球獎以及兩項艾美提名此後影視圈發展相當穩健出演了奧立弗·斯通（Oliver Stone）。
