除了艾美獎，格拉瑪還獲得過兩項金球獎、兩項美國喜劇獎和一項觀眾票選獎。他曾用自己獨具特色的嗓音為《玩具總動員2》（Toy Story 2）和《真假公主》（Anastasia）等多部卡通片配音，除了出演《烈火突擊隊》（The Pentagon Wars）等電視系列劇和電視電影，1996年他製作並主持了向傑克·本尼（Jack Benny）致敬的一台長一小時的晚會。
1955年2月，凱爾塞出生在維京島的聖托馬斯，由母親和祖父撫養成人，先後在新澤西和弗羅里達生活。祖父去世後，格拉瑪脫離了莎士比亞的戲劇，在享有盛譽的Juilliard學校度過了兩年的時光。然後他殺入戲劇界，出演了百老匯劇《麥克白》（Macbeth）和《奧賽羅》（Othello），1984年他加盟《歡樂酒店》劇組，開始在影視圈走紅，他的自傳《So Far》出版於1995年秋。
